Product advertising shoot for a luxury pressed set of Pioneers playing cards

There’s something special when you’re approached to shoot something that has been the culmulation of a lot of hard work and clear amazing design aesthetic, and this was exactly the case with these Pioneers luxury pressed playing cards from Ellusionist.com.

Pioneers playing cards - in two colours

Overview

Ellusionist’s quality go without question, having been the online international home of magic tricks, playing cards and tutorials for a number of years - and with quality at the forefront of all their products, and with these cards, you can see where their effort lies, and thats with all the details.

Designed by renowned playing card artist, Oban Jones - the cards are a hommage to Chicago’s World Fair 1893. The tuck box is constructed from laid card, which is a true replication of the period featuring debossing in all the right places.

One thing that you won’t notice (to the untrained eye at least) is that this is a ‘marked deck’ featuring 52 easily readable markings to use for either magic, mischief, or both.

Approach

One of the key things after discussion with Ellusionist was to create a period accurate, or at least period-feel to this bygone era of exploration and adventure with a strong maritime influence. Sourcing the props, the textures, the small details all added to creating my own illusion that these playing cards were taken straight from a Chicago curio shop circa 1890.

Results

Our own suite of visuals were dropped to Ellusionist, provided featuring key aspects, groupings, markings, pairings and showing key illustrations and elements. The images were used to release their new deck on their website and social media.
