Cegin Oriel is a high quality food ‘take away’ based in Pontcanna, Cardiff. From this leafy suburb, they have been producing the finest pies, pastries and baked products for nearly a year. Opening during lockdown, the shop has faced a raft of obstacles, but has managed to clear them easily and have developed a strong and loyal fan base in their shortcrust wake.

I was commissioned to head down to this Cardiff food ‘joint’ and shoot some food photography for their website and social media. They were already doing a great job themselves, but needed a few extra higher quality shots to help cut through the iphone.

One of the things that struck me straight away was the passion behind the food. Chatting with owner, Rhodri - his vision and passion for quality was plain to see and this was my challenge - to capture this passion for food within their photographs.

I love photographing people and food - so this was a marriage made in heaven. That said, when I’m working, I am definitely lazer-focused and never really eat the subjects - however, I did step away with a couple of portions of pie & mash which was most amazing.
